The campaign Aktion Aufschrei – Stoppt den Waffenhandel! was initiated in 2011 by the Friedensbewegung (Peace Movement) together with ecclesiastical as well as players working within the field of development policy. The objective is to put an end to the export of German produced armament. More than a hundred active groups are engaged on giving the victims a voice, as well as identifying the perpetrators. This is e.g. done through gathering and sharing information, conversations with politicians, and demonstrations. Small arms are in today’s warfare means of mass destruction, and the campaign, therefore, demands a prohibition on the export of small weapons and ammunition needed for these kinds of weapons. Furthermore, it is pushing for effective legal controls on arms export.
