Internationale Luft- und Raumfahrtausstellung (ILA)

The Internationale Luft- und Raumfahrtausstellung (ILA) which takes place bi-annualy in Schönefeld, near Berlin’s busy airport, is one of the main exhibitions of the German air and space industry.1 Although ILA publicly brands itself as a civilian industrial show, it counts among the biggest armament trade fairs in Europe.2 On show are the newest developments within European military as well as civilian aerospace industry. The German Armed Forces are the biggest exhibitor at the trade fair and 2018 presented the Tiger helicopter as well as the Tornado and Eurofighter jet-fighters.3 The Eurofighter is produced in collaboration with other European countries and was exported by Great Britain to Saudi Arabia and later used in the Yemen war.4

According to ILA, one of the main goals is to promote collaboration and facilitate international dialog between political leaders, industry and armed forces.5 The armament trade fair has companies participating from more than 41 countries. Among the German weapons manufacturers exhibiting at ILA are Diehl Defence,6 Rheinmetall,7 Airbus Defence & Space,8 and Boeing Deutschland.9
